Abstract

Olivia’s presentation will explore the vital role of nutrition in maintaining brain health and overall well-being. It will discuss the direct impact of food on our cognitive functions and emotions, detailing how certain dietary choices can affect our mental health, concentration, and mood. The significant influence of diet on the development of chronic diseases the environmental benefits of shifting towards plant-based diets will also be presented. Furthermore, the Mediterranean Dietary Pattern, highlighting its associated benefits for cardiovascular health, longevity, and cognitive function will be examined. Olivia will address the challenges of adopting healthier dietary patterns in contemporary society and propose strategies to enhance nutrient intake and reduce food waste. The presentation underscores the interconnectedness of human health, environmental sustainability, and dietary choices.

Olivia Wright
Olivia Wright

Olivia is a Senior Lecturer and Program Director for the Master of Dietetics Studies, and Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences at The University of Queensland. She is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation. Throughout her research career, Olivia has been an advocate for nutrition and dietetics, collaborating within interdisciplinary teams to prioritise the health of vulnerable populations. This began with her passion for healthy ageing and helping older adults to improve their quality of life through food and nutrition. From hospitals to aged care facilities and oncology to mental health, Olivia has led numerous studies examining the benefits of optimal nutrition on health outcomes. Her current program of work focuses on the health benefits and accessibility of traditional dietary patterns for priority populations. Olivia’s dedication extends to mentoring Higher Degree and Master of Dietetics Studies research students, a role she thoroughly enjoys.
