Abstract
This talk aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of healthy aging through a demographic lens.
In this talk I will first examine the evolution of healthy aging research from a demographic perspective, tracing the historical progression of demographic studies on aging and shifts in focus over time. Initially, research centered on increasing life expectancy, but it has since expanded to include the quality of life and well-being in older age.
Population aging and healthy aging are a critical focus in contemporary demographic studies. Hence, this talk will also explore the demographic shifts contributing to increased longevity and the rising proportion of older adults, addressing both the challenges and opportunities that this unprecedented population aging brings.
Lastly, I will explore emerging fields such as healthy aging and climate change and others to highlight the importance of a truly interdisciplinary approach in achieving a healthy aging population.
